After more than a dozen visits, I figure I've seen enough of Copper Mug to speak to what this place is actually like, and the short version is that it has become my go-to spot in the area. Start with the owner, because he is the difference. He has been there every single time I have walked in. Not sitting in some back office, but out on the floor, greeting people at the door, stopping by tables to ask how everything is, and seeing people off on their way out. You can tell this place is personal for him. A lot of restaurants say they care about their customers and the community. Here you can actually watch it happen, visit after visit. The vibe is exactly what this area was missing: a comfortable neighborhood restaurant and bar where you can bring the whole family for dinner or just post up at the bar for a drink. It has that rare local feel where regulars get greeted like old friends and first-timers get treated the same way. Service has always been warm and attentive with me. Even on busier nights, the staff makes a point of taking care of everyone, and the owner is right there working alongside them, which tells you a lot about how the place is run. No restaurant is perfect and everyone has an off night, but in over a dozen visits I have not seen one here. This is a locally owned spot run by someone who genuinely puts everything into it, and that is exactly where I want to spend my money. Five stars, easily.
Best place we have visited. It looks so different inside. The place is clean and so beautifully designed. Craft beers are amazing. I was amazed to see Russian river beers on tap in a small town. Owner greeted us and kept checking on us to make sure we are having a good time. We tried the cucumber lemon twist, which was amazing for a hot day. Me and my kids ordered a bunch of food. Starting with wings - lemon pepper and old bay are so good. I haven’t had that good of wings in a long time. Perfect crispy catfish. We also ordered samosas and the monos (dumplings). They were so good. You can tell they are fresh homemade.
I love to see such a quality bar so close to home, usually you’d have to go to Berkeley or further out to get a good cocktail, and nice atmosphere. We ordered Parmesan & lemon pepper wings, and sweet potatoes fries, the food was delicious hot and timely. They have a wide variety of beers on tap and cans, and a beautiful selection of craft cocktails specializing in various mules! The best part was how attentive the bartender Ebony and owner Kay were. Less than a year of being open, they already have a steady crowd of regulars, we will definitely be coming back. They also have a lounge room with a stage and karaoke set up!
Stopped by for a drink, had a few snacks! The food is comfort with a kick of spice! The coconut shrimp won my husbands heart!! K is engaging and personable! Great addition to the neighborhood!!! Planning our next night out!
The Copper Mug is a great addition to El Sobrante. I live in Los Angeles now but will be back any time I am visiting my family. The food and drinks are reasonably priced and delicious! But the atmosphere and service is really what makes the place shine. K, the owner is so genuine and kind. You can tell that he really loves what he does and is a true people person. Attached is a picture of him with my daughter - who didn't want him to put her down! I joked that I was able to enjoy myself with my Mom while I had some free babysitting. Can't wait to go back and hang out!
I first heard about Copper Mug through the Pinole/El Sobrante Moms group and attended a family-friendly bingo night hosted by one of the moms. Kay was wonderful—I called ahead of time and he reserved a table for us. He was so welcoming upon arrival, making sure my three kids and I were taken care of from start to finish. The food and service were amazing, with a great variety to choose from. We ordered chicken wings, mozzarella sticks (my son loved the cheese pull lol), chicken tenders with fries, catfish with fries, and calamari rings, and everything was absolutely delicious. There were so many options available, from appetizers to Indian food. Great vibes, amazing service, and super family-friendly. We had so much fun playing bingo and enjoying all the great food. If you’re looking for a family-oriented spot with great food, this is the place to go—we’ll definitely be back!
Great food and great service. We were constantly attended to and the food came out fast. The catfish is the highlight here. It's not too oily, and was salted to perfection. Would definitely come back here.
Great food and service. We had food off of the Indian Menu and it was delicious. The spice level was perfect - we asked for spicy. They have a large variety of beverages, especially beers. They also have non-alcoholic beer options and mocktails which are great for non drinkers like me!
Traveling to CA from Oregon and saw they had a great rating and it really didn’t disappoint. First person to greet us was Kay and he was so effervescent and witty. He made us laugh and told us the specials and offered to help my date with their very specific drink selection. We came for the Indian cuisine and I ordered the butter chicken and it was so delicious. The chef serves you the food and bows so respectfully when delivering your meal. The chicken was extremely moist and the flavor was wonderful. Highly recommend. Will be back for more fun times and yummy food and finally order a drink from their mule menu. Thanks Kay!!
We love this neighborhood spot. We have been eating here for a year. The drinks are awesome and Mr. Kay can craft a drink just for you. We always order the momos and we always take something home. The music selection is varied and has a homey feel. Plenty of parking and recently we started attending the salsa class. We look forward to going again and again.
